Vastrakala Pattu

Was excited when I received an invite for a launch of “VASTRA KALA PATTU” at the Taj Coromandel on the 14th of September 2009 at 7.30 p.m.

It’s the festive time of the year and the mood is absolutely celebratory. Pothys launched another unique creation, the Pothys Vastra Kala Pattu. To the people of Tamil Nadu, Pothys has always meant saris with true innovation woven into them.

Pothys were the first to come out with sari brands – Pothys Samudrika – Sarva Lakshana Kanchi Pattu & Pothys Parampara Pattu. Each year Pothys featured a new pattern through various product extensions.

Each sari woven to its best…the colour, studs, work etc., unique in is texture. The sari collection is a confluence of north and south, with the zardosi and minakari works aesthetically adorning the Kanchipuram silk sari. The saris have intricate weaving techniques such as Polki and Kundan where stones are embedded on the silk with gold and silver threads. Launching the sari, Ms. Hema Malini said “Indian women look the best in saris as it symbolises the elegance and grace of feminity. The fusion of north and south in the sari is an innovative venture to attract the south Indian women who increasingly prefer north-Indian works.”

Ms. Hema Malini, who was sporting a peach sari with elaborate works of Swarovski crystals, said the ‘Vastra Kala Pattu,’ sari would revive and popularize the artistic tradition of India.

On her professional front, she said she has plans to come up with two films shortly and more would be on the anvil depending on their success.

As a parting remark, she offered a piece of advice to up and coming actors: “Work-out is the best way to stay in shape. It needs a lot of discipline to maintain it.”

Marking the event, women who have made a mark in their respective fields were honoured. Singer Anuradha Sriram, Doctor Priya Selvaraj, ad director Latha Menon, fashion designer Irum Ali and singer-director Anitha Udip were felicitated.

A ramp-walk of Ms. Chennai winners was held. Managing Partner of Pothys S.
